Production is officially underway for season two of USA Network's surprise breakout hit "Mr. Robot," Variety reports. The buzzy hacker noir-drama captured the attention of TV audiences everywhere this past summer with its unique tone and creative structure. Critics were similarly enamored as "Mr. Robot" scored three Golden Globe nominations, including one for star Rami Malek and one for Christian Slater who has found a career resurgence with the mysterious role of the title character. The drama series itself also garnered a nomination.
"We are really happy that people are seeing the same things that we see in a show that we love so much," USA Network President Chris McCumber told Variety. "The competition is so intense - there's so many great shows deserving recognition and of people's time. It's very hard to break through."
It was recently announced that show creator Sam Esmail would direct all ten episodes of season two. His singular version birthed this off-beat show, so it will be interesting to see what he does with more control.
"Our philosophy is now that you have to have an 'always-on' strategy from the moment the season ends," McCumber said. "You have to find voices that are relevant and great storytellers and have such a specific vision. In Sam we have found that."
The exact premiere date for season two of "Mr. Robot" has not been announced yet, but the show is expected to return sometime in summer 2016.
