Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy was dealt a serious blow - quite literally - when he was sucker punched in the face by a teenager while on the campaign trail ahead of the country's general elections on Sunday.
While campaigning at an event in the town of Pontevedra, near Rajoy's home region of Galicia, on Wednesday, the teen in question went up to him asking for a photograph, before punching him in the side of the head, according to CNN.
The attack, clearly taking Rajoy by surprise, caused him to stumble and lose his glasses, as well as leaving him with a bruise on his face.
Beyond that, he was relatively unharmed, even posting a tweet saying that he's "fine" and "let's continue building a serious Spain."
In the meantime, the 17-year-old assailaint, only identified as A.V.F, was detained by police, though it remains unclear what his motivations for the attack were. Rajoy later announced in a separate tweet on Thursday that he will refuse to draw any political conclusions from the attack, according to USA Today.
Rajoy's ruling conservative Popular Party is expected to win elections this weekend, despite its popularity falling in several years amid an economic slump and tax hikes.
