The smartphone market is swamped with new releases and consumers are left confused about which one is better than the other. Here is a detailed comparison between three recently launched smartphones.
BlackBerry, once a pioneer in the smartphone world, is hoping to regain its hold on the market with the launch of its recent Z10. On the other hand, HTC which is known to be one of the poorest contenders in the smartphone market, recently launched HTC One, which is not underprivileged in the features department and has a reasonable shot at becoming the customers' favorite. Tech giants are of the opinion that during the Ericsson era, Sony lacked passion in its smartphones but that has changed with its newly launched Xperia Z. Listed below is a comparative study of these three phones and where one triumphs over the other.
Price
Price is one major issue with consumers while looking for their favorite phone. BlackBerry's Z10 is available in the U.S for $199.99 with a two year AT&T contract and for $999 without a contract. The Sony Xperia Z is comparatively lighter on the pocket costing $769.00 with no contract. HTC's One is available at $920 without contract but shipment of the product has currently been delayed due to component storage.
Display
If display is the consumer's main preference, Xperia Z is the way to go, offering a full 5-inch TFT captive display with 1,920x1,080 pixels, 441ppi resolution. HTC One comes in at second position with 4.7-inch LCD display and 1,920x1,080 pixels, 468ppi resolution. BlackBerry Z10 has the smallest display of the three - 4.2-inch LCD with 1,280x768 pixels, 355ppi resolution.
Operating System
Even though BlackBerry added a reasonable number of features and apps to the latest new BB10 OS, it visibly lags behind leaders iOS and Android. One of the major drawbacks is that it's not customizable. Also, due to its late entry into the market, it needs to do a lot of "catching up" to give the leaders any real competition.
HTC One and Sony Xperia Z run on Android OS, v4.1.2 (Jelly Bean). However, while HTC One has been upgraded to v4.2.2 (Jelly Bean), Xperia Z is still in plans to upgrade the software.
Connectivity
All three smartphones have 4G LTE connectivity and support NFC.
Camera
Sony Xperia Z is the clear winner in this field. Mentioned below are the specifications of all three phone cameras.
BlackBerry Z10 has an 8MP rare camera with 1080p HD video recording and a 2MP front camera
HTC One has a 4MP (Ultrapixel) rare camera with 1080p HD video recording and a 2.1MP front camera
Sony Xperia Z has a 13.1MP rare camera with 1080p HD video recording and a 2.2MP front camera
Processor
HTC One wins in this field yet again with its 1.7GHz processor.
BlackBerry Z10: 1.5GHz, dual-core Snapdragon S4 Plus
HTC One: 1.7GHz, quad-core Snapdragon 600
Sony Xperia Z: 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4
Storage capacity
All three models boast of somewhat the same storage capacity except for HTC One, which doesn't have an expandable memory slot but comes in a 64GB internal memory version as well.
BlackBerry Z10: 16GB with an expandable memory slot extending to 64GB.
HTC One: 32GB, 64GB.
Sony Xperia Z: 16GB with an expandable memory slot of 64GB.
