The Thunder registered a comfortable 26-run victory over the Sydney Sixers in the opening match of the BBL 05 on Thursday. Battling first, skipper Mike Hussey's 80 off 58 balls helped the Thunder post 158 for four in twenty over, according to the Australian Associated Press. The Sixers were later dismissed for 122.
On the other hand, the Stars lost their first tournament match against the Adelaide Strikers. A record fifth wicket partnership between Alex Ross and skipper Brad Hodge powered Strikers to a 19-run win over the Stars on Friday, according to ABC News.

The fifth season of Australia's highly popular T20 tournament, the KFC BBL, started on Thursday. The BBL 05 features eight teams including the Sydney Sixers, the Melbourne Stars, the Adelaide Strikers, the Sydney Thunder, the Perth Scorchers, the Melbourne Renegades, the Hobart Hurricanes and the Brisbane Heat, according to Cricket Australia. Several international T20 players like Chris Gayle, Darren Sammy, Kumar Sangakkara, Dwayne Bravo and Kevin Pietersen are drafted in the eight BBL teams for the tournament.
