Microsoft Acquires Data Startup Metanautix

The expansion of Microsoft continues, as the tech giant has announced that is has acquired data analytics company Metanautix, according to the Motley Fool. The addition will aid Microsoft with its operational decisions.

Metanautix was launched in 2014 by Theo Vassilakis and Toli Lerios, VentureBeat reported. Before that, the startup spent two years in development and has continued to grow since.

Microsoft intends to incorporate Metanautix into its "data platform, including SQL Server and the Cortana Analytics Suite," according to TechCrunch.

The company, however, has not given any more specifics as to how it plans to use its new acquisition in the future.

"Metanautix started out with the vision to integrate the data supply chain by building the Quest data compute engine that enables scalable SQL access to any data. Three years in, we can take this work to the next level by joining forces with Microsoft. We look forward to being part of Microsoft's important efforts with Azure and SQL Server to give enterprise customers a unified view of all of their data across cloud and on-premises systems," co-founder Theo Vassilakis said in a blog post, according to Venture Beat.

The deal is the latest foray into data analytics for big tech companies, with Amazon beginning its push with Amazon Web Services earlier this year.
