Florida Atlantic football coach Carl Pelini and defensive coordinator Pete Rekstis have reportedly resigned over a drug-related incident, ESPN reports.
Pelini, in the middle of his second season at FAU, and Rekstis are expected to announce their resignations on Wednesday at 4 p.m., when the school holds a press conference. A source told ESPN the resignation is related to the apparent one-time use of marijuana.
"A source said the coaches attended a recent social event where marijuana was used," Brett McMurphy of ESPN wrote on Wednesday. "Although this appears to be an isolated incident, all involved determined it was in the best interest of the program that the coaches resign, the source said."
FAU hasn't yet confirmed the resignations.
The Owls finished 3-9 under Pelini last year; the team is currently 2-6 this season after a 45-10 loss to Auburn over the weekend.
Pelini, who replaced Howard Schnellenberger as coach after the 2011 season, previously worked as the defensive coordinator at Nebraska under his younger brother, Bo.
