The St. Louis Cardinals play the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday in Game 6 of the 2013 World Series. The game starts at 8:07 p.m. ET. Listen to the live radio broadcast HERE.
St. Louis is fighting to stay alive and force a seventh game; Boston is just one win away from its third World Series title since 2004. After taking a 3-2 lead in the series on Monday, the Red Sox return home to try to close it out.
If the Red Sox do win the World Series, it'll mark the first time since 1918 that a Major League Baseball championship has been won in Boston. Despite the historical significance a win would mean for the city, the Red Sox are only concerned with winning a World Series title.
"I don't know what happened in 1918, but tomorrow we're going to try and make it happen, make people proud and happy in the city of Boston and New England," Red Sox slugger David Ortiz told reporters, via ESPN. "I guarantee it's going to be wild."
If Boston does celebrate winning its first World Series at home in almost a century, Ortiz would be a big part of why. The veteran's performance through the series is already igniting talks of Cooperstown. He boasts a .733 batting average with two home runs and six RBIs, accounting for one-third of Boston's offense, ESPN reports.
John Lackey (0-1, 3.68 ERA) starts Game 6 for Boston.
Cardinals pitcher Michael Wacha, meanwhile, is tasked with keeping St. Louis's postseason alive. The rookie sensation has won all four of his playoff starts while allowing just three earned runs through 27 innings.
He earned the win in Game 2, despite giving up two earned runs.
Facing elimination, Wacha knows emotions will be high in Fenway Park.
"I imagine it's going to be crazy, but I'm not going to pay any attention to it," Wacha said.
