‘Star Wars Episode 7’ RUMORS: ‘The Force Awakens’ Was Originally Supposed to Kill Off THIS Character

Warning: The following contains spoilers for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

At long lost, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has graced us with its presence and racked up north of $500 million at the worldwide box office already. Talk about first impressions. Though "The Force Awakens" gave "Star Wars" fans almost exactly what they wanted, it also almost gave audiences a different movie entirely.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of the new film was Resistance pilot Poe Dameron, played by Oscar Isaac. Cocky and unafraid to hurl a witty one-liner at a bad guy, Poe is in many ways the new Han Solo. He opens the film and a tense and exciting heist of vital information that gets the ball rolling on the film's plot. However, director J.J. Abrams never intended the character to survive past that point.

In an interview with GQ, Iscaac revealed that Abrams planned to kill Poe after the first scene. This actually caused Isaac to rethink accepting the role as he had already gone through something similar with his brief appearance in "The Bourne Legacy." However, he ultimately could not pass up the opportunity to play in a galaxy far, far away. Lucky for him too as Abrams eventually decided to keep Poe around for the entirety of "The Force Awakens."

While this newest addition to the "Star Wars" lore focuses primarily on John Boyega's Finn and Daisy Ridley's Rey, Isaac's Poe Dameron was a breath of fresh air every time he stepped into frame. He brought a sense of humor to the proceedings that really hit with audiences and no one can question the man's piloting skills after the stunts he pulled off in "The Force Awakens." In fact, we hope he receives even more screen time in Rian Johnson's "Star Wars: Episode VIII."
