Google + Custom URLs Now Available For Average Users Meeting Minimal Criteria

Google is now allowing average users to create their own URL for a Google+ account by meeting three minimal criteria.

Google allowed brands and business to have a custom URL that directs users to respective brands or business Google+ accounts. Now, Google is expanding this option to average users who fit certain minimal criteria. This could be a big win for those users who wants their friends and family to find them much easily.

Google+ account holders can have a shorter, snappier URL in exchange for meeting three minimal criteria. Firstly, a user must have a profile photo, which shouldn't take much long even if you don't have it now. Secondly, your account must be 30 days old. Finally, you must have at least 10 followers, as explained in Google+ Support page. This is the minimal criteria and most of the users on Google+ will fall under the category of getting a new custom URL.

Like the criteria to get an approval for custom URL is simple, so is setting up a new one. Eligible users will see a notification on top of their profile page. By clicking "Get a custom URL," you can choose from the available URLs for your account page that includes your name. Google will display all possible URLs available based on your choice and you can select the best one you like. Adding extra numbers and letter will make your URL unique and chances of availability is higher. This is just like creating a new email account.

The setting up process involves verification. A code is sent to your mobile number and the same must be entered on the computer screen. Once a URL gets approved and linked to your Google+ account, it cannot be changed. Hence cross verify all the details, most importantly the choice of your URL, before clicking on Confirm.

Once everything is set, users can share their URL with friends and family. The URL will be as simple as google.com/+customURL/about. Users can change the last part to photos, videos or posts to directly guide others to the page you want.
