Austrian listeners flooded a local radio station with a myriad of complaints after one of its DJs barricaded himself inside the studio booth and played Wham's "Last Christmas" 24 times in a row, the Daily Mail U.K. reported. Joe Kohlhofer, 27, started out his 8:00 a.m. morning show by telling his listeners that he felt the people in the area were not in a festive mood, so he proceeded with playing "Last Christmas" a total of 24 times for the last two hours.
Kohlhofer was due to present the radio's drive time show Antennae Carinthia with his co-host Patricia Jordan, but he barricaded the door with a wooden chair and declared that he was going to present the show all by himself.
For the next two hours, Kohlhofer continued to torture his listeners with the George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley classic with no mercy while Jordan looked on - and listened - from outside the booth, The International Business Times reported. Eventually, the radio DJ ceased playing the song because his own four-year-old daughter phoned in to say that she didn't like the song. "
I wanted to play it all day, but because I love my daughter so much I gave in to her request," he said on air.
The station has since claimed that Kohlhofer's stunt was not planned, and the radio station's deputy programme director Tommy Schmid told Austria's Kurier newspaper that the host could face "consequences," according to The Independent.
