Dove, Snickers Recall: Holiday Chocolate Recalled Due To Undeclared Allergens

Mars Chocolate North America issued a voluntary recall Friday of its seasonal DOVE® Chocolate Assortment Snowflakes, 24.0 oz. bags sold at Wal-Mart since they might have Snickers, Milky Way or Twix mixed in the packages.

The recall came after a customer notified Mars about finding a Snickers bar inside one of the packages, a press release from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration indicates.

The packages are only supposed to contain pieces of milk chocolate, dark chocolate and milk chocolate with caramel. However, nearly 7,000 of those packages may contain Snickers as well as Milky Way and Twix bars which contain nuts, wheat and eggs, all of which are potentially-life threatening allergens that aren't listed as ingredients on the package.

The affected products were shipped and distributed to Wal-Mart between Sept. 19 and Dec. 25 to 35 states. All of them bear the Item Number 10139802, UPC Number 400050521, and Lot Codes 537CG4PA30, 537DG4PA30, 538AG4PA30, 538AM4PA30, 541AG4PA20, 542EM4PA20, according to Delish.

Mars notes that no "adverse reactions" have been reported so far, and have been working with Wal-Mart to remove the tainted packages from its shelves.

In the meantime, customers who believe they have purchased the item and have allergy concerns are encouraged to return to the chocolates to the store of purchase for a full refund, reported dbtechno. Consumers with questions are concerns should either go to fda.gov or call the administration's toll free number at 1-800-551-0907.
