Last October, ABC's "Mistresses" made the decision to shoot Season 3 in Vancouver, Canada instead of Los Angeles due to budget cuts, forcing star Alyssa Milano to step down from her role as Savi, but now that the set will be returning to California, could this mean that Savi could be making a comeback?
When Milano, 43, stepped down, Jennifer Esposito was brought on to play a different character in Season 3, but it was recently announced that Esposito would not be returning for Season 4, according to Deadline. Now that "Mistresses" has been the only series to get tax incentives from the California Film Commission, it's able to relocate back to Los Angeles, and it has everyone wondering if Milano will be returning.
During the Season 2 finale, Milano's character Savi caught her sister Joss (Jes Macallan) kissing her ex-husband Harry (Brett Tucker) and this was their way of getting her off the show without physically killing her off. It ended with her walking towards the beach, and that was the last anyone saw of Milano, but not the last they saw of her character. The producers decided that the character Savi would come back during the Season 3 premiere just for the one episode to complete the storyline. Turns out, she fled to Europe following the heartbreaking discovery, limiting her communication with the rest of the crew, and that was the last anyone saw of Savi, so there is still ways for Milano's character to return to the show.
"Alyssa Milano may not be part of our premiere, but the character of Savi is very much a part of the premiere," executive producer Rina Mimoun told TV Guide at the time. "The ripple effects of her actions [are] what the first two hours are really about and how it affects all of our women, mostly Joss, but also Karen [Yunjin Kim]. It's kind of the point of the first two hours. So for everyone who was worries we would run away from the Savi of it all, we're definitely not. She's part of our show and part of our fabric."
As for if she could ever return, executive producer K.J. Steinberg will always welcome her back. "The door is always open," Steinberg said.
Apparently, there have not yet been any conversations between the producers and Milano since they have decided to return to L.A. and since she has been away and unavailable for comment. But, she also has not yet committed to any other series since she left "Mistresses."
"It's with a heavy heart that I have decided that I can't relocate," Milano wrote at the time of her departure. "I have two babies under four. Being a mother and wife comes first, and I just cannot uproot my children and separate the family by moving away. I will miss this job desperately and wish everyone the absolute best."
