While thousands of young women will be dressing up as Miley Cyrus this Halloween, the pop princess herself is imitating a fellow female celebrity who also made a bold statement at the VMAs, and to the relief of many fans, she isn't using blackface to do it!
Cyrus recently tweeted and Instagrammed several photos of her dressed as Lil' Kim, donning a purple wig, lips filled in with dark liner, and one-sleeve skintight purple bodysuit that reveals her left breast which is covered in a sparkly purple pasty, all custom-made to resemble the rapper's shell-pasty outfit from the 1999 VMAs.
Meanwhile, Cyrus's friend and assistant, Cheyne Thomas, wore Cyrus's now-infamous crazy bear bodysuit from her own VMAs performance this year, in which she performed her hit single "We Can't Stop" before ripping off the costume to reveal a sheer latex outfit underneath that she wore as she grinded on Robin Thicke during their memorable duet of "Blurred Lines."
Lil' Kim, a good friend of Cyrus, took to Twitter to praise her for her creative costume choice.
"Awwww. Look at my baby @mileycyrus tonight!!! Looking GORGEOUS!!! I wish I was there to squeeze your boob :) :) Love U so much !!!! #mytwin," she wrote, even proudly retweeting photos of Cyrus dressed as her.
Cyrus even included a photo of her grinding on her friend Thomas while holding a red solo cup, the self-proclaimed "twerk queen" never one to miss an opportunity to show off her skills.
Cyrus's costume is a perfect example of how to dress as a black celebrity without donning blackface, as "Dancing With the Stars" pro Julianne Hough did recently, causing a backlash online and from the media for darkening her skin and hair to look like "Orange is the New Black" character Crazy Eyes.
Hough has since apologized, though she did open up discussion over the appropriate way to recreate a character without being racially offensive.
