It's Halloween and for many that means dressing up and shouting "Trick or Treat" at every door they can knock their little hands on. For others, Halloween means gathering around the TV in their living room and watching a few scary movies while waiting for the door bell to ring. Scary movies are a big deal for some, especially those who aren't too keen on watching them.
Below is our list of the top scariest movies you can convince your friends to watch over a few candy bars tonight.
Halloween: Ok, admittedly this one is a bit of a no-brainer. AMC is playing each of the movies in order all day and night. By the time trick or treaters come around your door they'll be at numbers 4 or 5. However, the original is on Netflix. The films center around the boogeyman Michael Meyers and his never ending mission to murder his family members, and any other helpless co eds who may be unfortunate enough to get in his way. This is a perfect selection since each of the films takes place on - you guessed it - Halloween night.
The Amityville Horror: Whether you're going with the original or the remake, you can't go wrong with this spooky story about a family that moves into a haunted house only to find themselves on the run from the father-figure who ends up being possessed by the murderous ghost of the previous owner. It's creepy, suspenseful and not too gory, so you'll be able to keep your candy down while watching it.
The Blair Witch Project: Sure it's become a bit of a punch-line in the found-footage genre but never forget that there was a time when this movie captivated the entire country with its unique brand of story telling. It's the perfect film for those who want to get a little bit of irony from your scary movie this year, this is a safe choice for even the most cowardly among your friends and family.
Night of the Living Dead: You can't go wrong with either version of this classic zombie flick. A group of survivors are trapped in a small farm house with the dead knocking at their door in mass. How could you not want to put this original zombie flick on your television screen while you wait for children dressed as monsters to come knocking at your door with an insatiable hunger all their own.
The Exorcist: This one is not for the faint of heart. If you have even one in your group objecting to this film, it's probably a good idea to find another film on our list. After all, this one is known in many circles as being the scariest horror movie of all time. A young girl gets possessed by none other than the Devil. Based on a true story, this film will get under your skin, especially if you watch it on the scariest night of the year.
Check out any of these five films tonight while you pass out candy, just make sure your don't let any kids see the screen when they come looking for their candy.
