Oakland Raiders free safety Charles Woodson will play his final home game Thursday night against the San Diego Chargers, and the veteran star playmaker could see some time at wide receiver and punt returner, according to NFL.com reporter Conor Orr.
The Raiders were officially eliminated from the playoffs following Sunday's loss to the Green Bay Packers but look to send their star safety out on a high note. Woodson announced the end of his 18-year NFL career on Monday, as he wanted a to say goodbye to the Raiders fans in their final home game, according to ESPN's Bill Williamson.
Woodson won the Heisman Trophy in 1997 at the University of Michigan and caught 11 passes for 231 yards with two touchdowns that season. He could also become the oldest player in NFL history to return a punt, which would only be fitting for Thursday night. The Raiders are keeping their cards close to their chest, as they will not reveal any special plans they have for Woodson against the Chargers.
"I don't know if (he will)," said Raiders offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave, via the NFL. "That's been in discussions since we started the season. We may have something up our sleeve. It might be the right time to do it."
Woodson continues to be a playmaker for the Raiders defense, recording 65 tackles and five interceptions with a sack during the 2015 season. His play on the field will surely be missed by teammates and fans, and expect Raiders nation to celebrate his career with loud cheers on Thursday.
