Pastry Pesto Christmas Tree: A Perfect Last-Minute Christmas Side Dish

This amazing yuletide appetizer from French website Demotivateur Food is sure to wow your guests, and is a perfect last-minute accompaniment to any Christmas dinner. If you're attending a holiday potluck, you can bring the ingredients to your host's house and make it there, baking it fresh and sending the inviting smell of pastry and pesto all through their home.

All you need is two sheets of store-ready flaky butter pastry, an egg, and a big jar of pesto.

Place one sheet of flaky pastry on a parchment-lined cookie sheet and coat it evenly with pesto. Lay the second sheet right on top. With a knife, cut the outline of a Christmas tree shape as shown in the video below. Cut little strips along the sides, and twist them to make it look extra-fancy.

Beat your egg in a bowl with a little water, and use a brush to spread the egg wash onto your pastry so it comes out shiny.

Bake at 350 for 18-20 minutes, and voila! It's a rip-and-dip pesto Christmas tree. Serve with creamy garlic sauce, or a simple tomato dipping sauce.
