Did you receive one too many boxes of cookies for Christmas? While you can give some of these away so that they won't go to waste, you're likely to keep a favorite batch to eat in the next few weeks. The only problem? These cookies can turn stale and you're probably not going to enjoy eating them anymore. Not to worry, though, as there are cookie hacks for this.
1) Microwave cookies before eating them.
Cookies that have hardened over time can be made soft and chewy again by putting them in the microwave first. Put the cookie in a saucer, set next to a mug of uncovered water and heat on low for at least a minute or depending on the amount of cookies, per What's Cooking America.
You could also wrap cookies in a moist paper towel, then put them in a saucer. Microwave for 30 seconds to a minute, per Live Strong.
2) Put a slice of bread in your cookie container to keep it fresh.
Mind Over Munch on YouTube did an experiment to see if putting bread inside the cookie jar works to keep it fresh. You can watch the results below:
3) Make a cookie cereal.
Crumble the stale cookies in a jar, pour cold milk and enjoy your snack! Easy right? You can add fruits and nuts if you prefer.
4) Bake a Cookie Crumb Pie Crust
Ingredients:
3 cups crumbled stale cookies
2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
4 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
Procedure: HNGN's recipe for Hot Chocolate Cheesecake
The cookie crust recipe is from Cookulus.
5) Bake a Cookies and Cream Pudding
Ingredients:
3.4 ounce box of instant vanilla pudding mix
2 cups whole milk
6 ounces frozen whipped topping, thawed
4 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/4 cup powdered sugar
12 ounces chocolate sandwich cookies
Procedure: Crush and crumble the cookies and set aside. In a bowl, combine the pudding mix, milk and whipped topping together, then add the cookie crumbles. In another bowl, fold the cream cheese, butter and sugar and combine well. Mix the contents of both bowls afterwards and chill for two hours before serving.
