The reason why everyone hates running back by committee is because it is very difficult for one offense to reasonably support two ball-carriers simultaneously in fantasy football. Workloads fluctuate, touches are divvied up based on the hot hand, opportunity is minimized.
While the Buffalo Bills aren't operating quite that way, there's been a bit of hot potato going on between LeSean McCoy and rookie Karlos Williams. Both backs have dealt with injuries, leading to brief stretches of impressive production for each. But with McCoy battling a knee injury, Williams may get another shot to be the lead back.
"Williams was a star to begin the season, though LeSean McCoy got rolling and has dominated the touches of late," ESPN NFL Insider Field Yates wrote. "With McCoy banged up (he is considered week-to-week with a sprained MCL, according to colleague Adam Schefter), Williams could be set to start on Sunday against Dallas. It may not be a full workload (Mike Gillislee will be mentioned later), but we've seen Williams produce in a major way before."
On the season, Williams is averaging 4.1 yards per carry and has rushed for 417 yards with five touchdowns. He's also caught two additional scores. He put up a pair of 100-yard games earlier in the season with McCoy sidelined by injury, but has yet to really pop since with single digit carries in his last five games.
However, that could all change this week. The Dallas Cowboys rushing defense ranks 18th in yards allowed per game (110.9) and, more importantly, 28th in touchdowns (14). If you haven't noticed, the Bills like to run the ball regardless of their opponent. But given the tasty matchup and potentially increased workload, Williams could steal you a championship this weekend.
