After previously hinting that he would drop unreleased music from the late pop star Aaliyah, Timbaland came through with his promise and released the song "Shakin" on Christmas Day. The song, which Timbaland produced for her, is included on Timbaland's latest mixtape called "King Stays King."
"Aaliyah.. This is for you baby," Timbaland wrote on Twitter with a link to the track.
Timbaland produced many of Aaliyah's biggest hits for her like "Try Again," "Are You That Somebody?" and "I Am Music," according to Entertainment Weekly. The two frequently worked together before the singer passed away in a plane crash on Aug. 25, 2001.
"People always say, 'I'm going to do a song with Aaliyah.' It will never work," Timbaland told Revolt TV in 2013. "Chris Brown got a record, it won't work. Drake can go do a record with Aaliyah, it ain't gonna work. Aaliyah music only work with its soulmate, which is me."
Timbaland's mixtape also features cameos from Young Thug, Migos, Rich Homie Quan, Tink, 2 Chainz and others, according to Billboard. The project is supposed to be a preview of his upcoming full-length album "Textbook Timbo," which will drop in early 2016.
