While there are plenty of do's and don'ts when it comes to fashion, some of these rules can be broken. After all, style is a personal choice and you have the option to follow or ditch trends. For 2016, here are some suggested rules you can break and still come out looking smashing.
1) Only wear heels for dresses and skirts? Nah! Some interesting ensembles can be paired with nice sneakers. It's a smart street style for dressing casually and can work even when you're wearing chiffon skirts, a couture dress or elegant black and gold, per Cosmopolitan.
Men are also ditching their dress shoes for sneakers and the style can still look classy and cool. "You don't need to be wearing a pair of drop-crotch sweatpants to be wearing [designer] sneakers," said Tom Kalenderian of Barney's via Wall Street Journal. "You can wear them with a gorgeous suit and look like a million bucks."
2) Everything must match? On the contrary! Don't be afraid to mix and match patterns and colors. They don't need to be perfectly in sync. Go with florals and dots for contrast, or pair stripes and prints in same color shades, or play with sizes matching big prints with small prints. It's indeed a challenge to mix wacky prints, but if done right, you can create an inspiring style, per Refinery29.
3) Metallics only for night time? Go ahead and incorporate metallics in your day wear. Add an interesting style to your outfit to stand out from a crowd, per Popsugar. 4) Less is more? Not when it comes to accessories, as stacking rings, bangles and necklaces can be glamorous, fun and edgy. However, there's an artistic style to stacking as geometry and proportion should come into play, per Huffington Post. For necklaces, experiment with lengths; for bracelets, experiment with shapes and thickness; For rings, experiment with colors and textures.
5) Throw out items you haven't worn in more than six months? There's no need to do this anymore especially if the clothes are still in great condition. You can even create your signature style from items that are no longer trendy.
