Fitbit came out on top this Christmas. On Christmas morning, Fitbit soared to the top of the Apples app store's downloads, according to Techcrunch. Fitbit's stock also rose 5 percent by Monday morning.
The app was already the number one app in the health and fitness section, but topped all charts by late Christmas morning, according to Business Insider. To make it to the number one spot, it had to bypass 20 other popular apps.
Fitbit is currently the leader in wearable devices, ahead of the Apple Watch by 22 percent, according to Engadget. That does not mean, however, that the competition did poorly. The Apple Watch has also been selling rapidly, with 3.6 million units sold in quarter two.
Fitbit's popularity stems, in part, from its wide range of products sold at prices more affordable than other companies. The popular Fitbit devices bought this year included the Fitbit Surge, Charge, and Flex.
This is a continuing trend for Fitbit, as it always seems to do well around the holiday season - and in the fourth quarter in general. Last year, 5.28 million devices were sold, which totaled more than the three previous quarters combined.
With all of this exponential growth, it's obvious that Fitbit is definitely here to stay.
