It came to light Monday that a German man died from injuries he received attempting to break into a condom machine. The incident occurred in the German town of Schöppingen, where police say the unnamed 29-year-old man and two other suspects placed a bomb on the machine.
They used a get-away car for cover, but one of the would-be robbers suffered a head injury due to flying debris. The man's friends brought him to a hospital in the German city of Ahaus, but attempts to revive him failed, according to Deutsche Welle.
Initially, the men claimed the deceased suspect fell down a flight of stairs. However, the hospital staff grew suspicious and contacted the authorities. The remaining suspects relented and admitted their scheme. Policemen who investigated the scene found condoms and cash littered across the ground, according to Fox News.
A piece of metal struck the deceased before he could safely enter the get-away vehicle. His accomplices were briefly arrested by police, but later released, as reported by Daily News.
