It seems like Google has got unending surprises for its fans this holiday season. After unveiling the latest Android 4.4 and Nexus 5 last week, the web giant is reportedly developing a successor to Nexus 7, the Nexus 8.
The alleged picture of the device was leaked on the promotional page of Android 4.4. The leaked image was spotted under the Apps and Entertainment section, with a woman holding the yet-to-be-announced tablet displayed on the bottom of the page, reports The Verge. The tablet has thinner bezels when compared to its predecessor, Nexus 7.
This is not Google's first teaser for a product. Nexus 5 was leaked in a video where a Google representative was found holding the device at the launch event for Android 4.4. The Nexus 8 image, leaked on the official Android website, can be a promo strategy for its upcoming device.
However, the leaked picture did not give away much technical details other than an 8-inch display for the device. The upcoming Nexus tablet is expected to have the latest Android 4.4, similar features as the latest tablet offered by LG, the LG G pad. LG had partnered with Google to deliver the previous Nexus 7 entries. The South Korea-based multinational electronics company had submitted an 8-inch tablet called V510 for Bluetooth certification last week. It will not be surprising if the duo comes up with one more Nexus device by 2014.
In July multiple tech sites showed off a leaked image of Nexus 8 and the latest picture on the official Android 4.4 page are nearly identical to each other. One more reason for Google to come up with an 8-inch tablet could be competition. Apple's iPad Mini received a great response after it was announced in October. The California-based tech giant is reportedly struggling to meet the overwhelming demand with limited stock for the device according to a recent post on Gizbot.
Google could definitely take advantage of the situation beating Apple in the tablet race. The company will be revealing the next generation Nexus 10 in some time and it is speculated that both the devices may come out in the same time.
