Arsenal manager Arsene Wegner is looking to make a splash during the January transfer window. With the Gunners in first place in Barclay's Premier League, Wegner made it clear he intends to add to his team in January, according to Fox Sports.
"I've already said we are a bit short. We will be busy," Wegner said on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny passed a physical to complete a $10.7 million dollar transfer to the Emirates, according to the Guardian. However, Elneny might not be able to join the Gunners immediately; the Egyptian will still need to acquire a work permit. This is made difficult as Egypt has slipped out of FIFA's top 50 rankings, meaning Arsenal could face an appeal. However, since Elneny appeared in every major international match for Egypt over the last two years this should not be a problem.
Even if the Gunners are able to lock down Elneny, a slew of injuries to regular players could force Wegner to make further additions. Arsenal is in a three way race with rivals Liverpool and Manchester United to acquire PSG stud Lucas Moura according to the Daily Star. The Gunners have offered the Brazilian a $32.5 million dollar deal and are waiting to hear back, according to French football outlet Foot Sur 7.
Failing that, Napoli forward Lorenzo Isigne would be a nice fit for Arsenal and, according to the Metro, the Gunners have contacted his agent for a transfer.
While Wegner works to bring front end talent to the Gunners, one of his current players might be on the way out. Defender Mathieu Dubuchy spoke with Wegner and wants out of Emirates Stadium, according to the Independent. Dubuchy is concerned a lack of playing time with Arsenal could leave his status in doubt for the French Euro 16 side.
Wegner's side currently sits atop of the Barclay's Premier League after Leicester City only managed a draw against Manchester City on Tuesday; however, he knows there is a lot of soccer left to be played. "You cannot rule us out," he said. "We are first after 19 games. We have a chance and want to fight for it. I believe we are mature enough. If a team is better than us then fair enough. But we must give everything."
