A web developer from Brooklyn has taken it upon herself to map the locations and types of about 600,000 trees in New York City, according to the Guardian.
Jill Hubley was inspired by a hand drawn map of central park's trees and decided to do something as well.
Taking the information from the city, she was able to catalog the various types of trees as well as create an online map depicting where they are across the city's five boroughs.
The map also show which trees are most popular and least popular in particular areas.
"Initially I was only going to do Brooklyn but I decided it would appeal to more people if I did the entire city, so I brought in all of the data," said Hubley. "In the end, that was absolutely the right decision, because there are striking, distinct patterns within each of the boroughs."
"Urban forests are vital to cities, and New York is doing a great job with tree stewardship," she added.
New York seems to have a vigilance in its efforts to plant greenery across the city.
In Nov. the city celebrated planting its one millionth tree.
