Toyota To Unveil Color-Changing Concept Car At Tokyo Motor Show Alongside Fuel-Cell And Convertible Hybrid Of ‘86’ Sports Car

Toyota has big plans for this month's Tokyo Motor Show unveiling. The car maker will show off its first concept vehicle with color-changing capabilities based on driver's emotions! This comes in addition to its fuel-cell technology car with a 310 miles range and a convertible hybrid version of its popular "86" sports car.

Car technology is about to leap forward with new integrated technology. While self-driving cars created a buzz among people, the latest concept by the world's biggest car maker, Toyota, will surprise many. The Japanese car maker has unveiled plans to show off its first color-changing, mood-reading car at the Tokyo Motor Show , commencing at the end of this month. The innovation doesn't end here, Toyota will also announce two new cars, one equipped with the latest fuel-cell technology offering a promising 500 kilometers (310 miles) range and recharge in just three minutes. And the popular "86" sports car will be relaunched as a convertible hybrid.

All this will be on display at the event scheduled from November 23 to December 1.

"The car will appeal to future consumers of the digital generation, who have been used to smartphones or iPads from a young age," Takeo Moriai, a manager in Toyota's product planning group, said in a statement, according to Bloomberg. "Given that the technology is still at a very early stage of development, it's challenging for us to figure out the extent to which the car can read emotions."

The technology sounds like fiction, something shown in the popular X-Men franchise, where the character Mystique has the ability to change her physical appearance. Toyota's concept works a little differently - it will alert other drivers of its presence by displaying distinct colors.

Hydrogen-Powered Fuel-Cell Concept

Several automakers have made vigorous efforts to integrate the green concept in their vehicles. The high costs are hindering a wider acceptance. But green vehicles are the future of automobiles. Toyota will debut its latest fuel-cell car at the auto show, which will take at least two years to be commercially viable.

The car will have an attractive range of 500 kilometers (310 miles) and recharge time equivalent to that of filling gasoline, three minutes. The hydrogen gas tanks inside the vehicle will help the fast recharge process.

Besides Toyota, other car makers including Honda with GM and Nissan with Ford and Daimler, are working on the fuel-cell concept car. Honda already has its fuel-cell FCX Clarity in the market, but it is available in limited markets.

In addition, Toyota will also display a convertible hybrid version of its "86" sports car and two concept minivans that are set for a commercial release in Japan next year.
