The Tennessee Titans will not renew general manager Ruston Webster's contract, and have removed Steve Underwood's interim tag and officially made him the Chief Executive Officer for the organization, according to the Titans' team website. The Titans were not the only team making big front office moves on Monday, as the Miami Dolphins have officially named Chris Grier as the organization's next general manager.
"I want to thank Stephen Ross and Mike Tannenbaum for this tremendous opportunity," said Grier, via the Dolphins' team website. "I love this organization and feel I am the right man for this job. South Florida is very important to me and my family and I look forward to working with our personnel and coaching staff to add talent to the roster."
The Dolphins clearly have talent on their roster, but have struggled to produce on the field. The Dolphins are reportedly requesting interviews from AFC East rival New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and defensive coordinator Matt Patricia, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Former Broncos and Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan is also scheduled to meet with the Dolphins Tuesday for his second interview with the team, according to Schefter.
The Titans fired head coach Ken Whisenhunt after starting the season with a 1-6 record, but Tennessee is not exactly in the same position as the Dolphins, as Miami clearly has a more talented on their roster from top to bottom. The Titans needed to fix their front office situation before addressing their next head coach, and some believe they could look within their own organization like the dolphins did and promote college scouting director Blake Beddingfield, according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport.
The Titans will interview interim head coach Mike Mularkey for the permanent job, but it's likely they will find their future general manager before making a final decision on their next head coach. Tennessee has some major decisions to make this offseason, and they currently have the number one pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
