Just last week, word got out that "The Meredith Vieira Show" could be going off the air early in 2016 if the ratings didn't start to improve, and even though NBCUniversal revamped the format, the short-lived talk show couldn't be saved.
The daytime talk show, which is currently in its second season, will be coming to an end once the season wraps up, according to TV Line. Once production is over, Vieira will begin to work on NBC's coverage of the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janiero.
"I am so sorry to see our show come to an end after this season, but I am also incredibly proud of the work our staff has done and forever grateful to our supportive viewers," Vieira said in a statement to Deadline. "We promise to spend our final weeks producing the best broadcast we know how. And have a blast doing so!"
While Vieira's show may not be the right fit for NBC, their veteran talk show host Ellen DeGeneres is definitely there to stay. "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" just signed a three-year renewal with 10 NBC-owned stations ensuring that she will keep her daytime spot through the 2020 season, according to Variety. "Ellen" has been on the air since 2003 and has been the top-rated female daytime talk show host since Oprah Winfrey ended her run four years ago.
"For more than a decade, 'Ellen' has anchored the daytime lineups of NBC-owned stations, offering our viewers a great afternoon show, delivering a strong lead for our early evening newscasts and helping to launch new hits," said Valari Staab, president of NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations.
"Day in and day out Ellen delivers the best show on television," said Ken Werner, Warner Bros. Domestic TV Distribution TV president. "Ellen and her team produce a completely unique and exciting hour, which is appointment television for viewers everywhere."
