Harley Davidson unveiled its two new lightweight motorcycles, the Street 500 and Street 750, to attract the young urban riders with its signature styling and room for further customization.
Harley Davidson has unveiled its latest line of motorcycles built on an all-new platform, the first in 13 years. The two new additions to the Harley Davidson lineup, the Street 750 and Street 500, targets young audience and suits urban riding conditions. The two new Dark Customs motorcycles sport new Revolution X engine housed in a lean, narrow chassis to make the bikes quick while riding through traffic.
Harley Davidson is one of the very few luxury-class motorcycles building companies that offer a wide range of custom, cruiser and touring bikes. The latest addition is different from its traditional heavyweight lineup, and targeted at global buyers, especially the young crowd.
"These are the newest motorcycles to join our Dark Custom lineup, which helped make us the number-one selling brand to young adults in the U.S. for the past five years," Matt Levatich, President and Chief Operating Officer, Harley-Davidson Motor Company, said in a press release. "Both the Street 750 and Street 500 were designed with thousands of hours of input from young adults in cities around the world. This input guided both the attitude and capabilities of these motorcycles. They are proof that being customer-led continues to be a core driver of our product development process."
Besides its lean and narrow styling for the new Street 750 and Street 500 models, Harley Davidson has left room for further customization. It even displayed some of its own customized Street bikes at the launch event, held a day before the International Motorcycle Show, EICMA. The company surveyed 3,000 customers across 10 countries and about 1,000 groups in major cities like Chicago, Mumbai, Sao Paulo and Tokyo.
The highly-researched Street bikes will be commercially available in selected markets initially that include India, Italy, Portugal, Spain and the U.S. in the first half of 2014. While the pricing of the bikes and the exact dates are yet to be announced, a report from Bloomberg suggests the bikes will be placed at the lowest price range for about $6.600 for the Street 500 and about $7,500 for the Street 750 model.
