Pranav Dhanawade: Indian Schoolboy Cricketer Becomes First Player To Score 1,000 Runs In Single Innings

Indian schoolboy Pranav Dhanawade, 15, scored an unbeaten 1,009 off 327 balls on Tuesday, becoming the first cricketer to score 1,000-plus runs in a single innings in any format of cricket.

Dhanwade, playing for KC Gandhi High School in an inter-school tournament organized by the Mumbai Cricket Association, hit 129 fours and 59 sixes in his epic 1,009 not-out knock against the Arya Gurukul School, according to the Times of India. His team also set a world record by declaring at 1465.

The 10th-grade student broke a 116-year old cricketing record for the highest individual score in any format of cricket by surpassing the A. Collins' unbeaten 628 on Monday, according to DNA India.

"I have always been a big-hitter. When I started I never thought about breaking the record. The focus was never that. I just played my natural game, which is to attack from the word go," Dhanawade told the Hindustan Times. "After reaching 300, my coach Harish Sharma told me to play on. I did not know of the world record, but we had the Indian record in mind."

Pranav's father Prashant Dhanawade hoped that his son's world record will fix problems younger cricketers are facing in the Kalyan area.

"There have been lots of problems, because we don't have a ground in Kalyan, there's no cricket development there. It's only played in Mumbai. Maybe after he completes his 1,000 runs, the talent in Kalyan also comes into focus. There are no sponsors as well. Hope all these problems get fixed," the proud father said, according to IBN Live.
