Once the magic of New Year's has worn off, January is a pretty difficult month to get through. The weather is cold and unwelcoming, people are in bad moods because they've already broken their resolutions, and winter doesn't seem to be coming to an end any time soon. To remedy this, here are four drink recipes to try and summon the summer.
1. Bourbon Lemonade from Cafe Terra Blog. This drink is basically just lemonade for grownups. You can make it as light or as heavy as you want when it comes to alcohol content, but the crucial step is muddling the mint properly. It's refreshing from the mint and citrus, and just a little warming from the bourbon.
2. Paloma from Bon Appetit. The paloma is Mexico's favorite drink. White tequila pairs with grapefruit and lime juice for a citrusy drink that packs a punch. It's always served with a salt rim which balances out the sugar in the drink. It works wonderfully with a big, warm bowl of pozole.
3. Aperol spritz from Aperol. Aperol is a spirit that is extremely popular in Italy, and the Aperol Spritz is the main way that it's consumed. It's slightly bitter, bright orange in color and flavor, and when partnered with prosecco and an orange slice, makes the perfect summery drink. You'll forget that we still have six months left until we see the sun again.
4. Strawberry daiquiri from The Kitchn. Tacky? Maybe. Delicious? Absolutely. The strawberry daiquiri has been loved for decades by beachgoers and underage drinkers, but that doesn't mean it doesn't deserve a place in everyone's drink repertoire. Replace with pineapple if you want to be even more rebellious towards old man winter. Sweet and delicious, you can drink these as dessert. Ignore the naysayers who would argue that whiskey is better- daiquiris go wonderfully with a crackling fire.
