Two Denver Teenagers Arrested For Breaking Into Middle School With BB Guns

Two Denver teenagers armed with BB guns that resembled assault rifles were arrested early Tuesday for breaking into a middle school and refusing to leave, Reuters reported.

The boys, both 15-years-old, entered Rachel B. Noel Middle School on Monday night. A witness said both of the teens, who will not be named because of they are juveniles, were carrying bags and what seemed like long rifles.

A call to the police was made after school janitors heard the teens break in.

"2 armed men are inside the school," Denver police said on their Twitter account at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday. "SWAT team is on-scene. Nobody else is said to be in the school."

Sgt. Steve Warneke said a telephone call was placed to local residents in the area to notify them of the situation as well, asking them to stay indoors.

The middle school was not occupied at the time of the break-in and no one was injured.

Sonny Jackson, a spokesman for Denver Police, said officers from the department, a SWAT team, and bomb squad obtained the weapons and bags, which were stuffed with items the teens attempted to steal including a computer. Jackson added that the teens pillaged multiple classrooms.

It wasn't until after the search that officials determined the weapons were BB guns, Jackson said.

Before they broke into Noel Middle School, the boys reportedly smashed a window at another nearby school though they didn't go inside. The teens did not attend either school and police believe their motive was robbery.

Kristy Armstrong, a school district spokeswoman in the area, said all schools were open and functioning on Tuesday.
