A latest selfie study from eBay Deals ranks Miley Cyrus top of the list for maximum selfies posted on Twitter, making her the selfie queen of social networks.
How often do you "favorite" or "RT" a celeb selfie on Twitter? An eBay Deals survey of celebs has come out with a list of the highest number of slefies on Twitter. Of late, selfies have secured a prominent place on social networking sites. Not just celebs, even several social media users upload selfies frequently. The popularity of the word resulted in the Oxford Dictionaries Online to include "selfie" in its glossary.
The study, conducted by eBay Deals in September 2013, shows a massive growth in the number of selfies posted online. The word itself figures as one of the most popular search items. The total number of selfies posted by top 50 celebs on Instagram is 3,933 compared to 347 on Twitter. The data shows Instagram is the main hub of the selfie revolution. Although, most of the celebs use Instagram for sharing their photos, the study also included Twitter self pictures.
Twitter is used by most celebrities around the world to connect to fans directly. Celebs announce important updates and sometimes share selfies with their fans.
Topping the charts is Miley Cyrus with 121 selfies. Cyrus is followed by Tyra Banks with 62 selfies, Kendall Jenner with 35, Demi Lovato with 32 and Lady Gaga with 27 selfies. The list continues to the least number of selfies shared by different celebs.
Some celebrities are very restrained about self portraits. Barack Obama's profile tweeted 1,463 messages with photos and videos, but none were selfies, securing the last rank in the top 100 celebs on Twitter. Other celebs including Perez Hilton and 50 Cent join Mr. President for having zero selfies on the social network.
Cyrus may have ruled Twitter with several selfies, but the number falls short when compared with reality TV star Kylie Jenner on Instagram. Jenner shared over 450 selfies on Instagram. Celebs had more selfies posted on Instagram than on Twitter. If the same number of Cyrus' selfies had been on Instagram, then she would have ranked 14. The Kardashians dominated the Instagram platform with maximum selfies. Kendall Jenner was fourth with 236 and Kim Kardashian came fifth with 216 selfies. Khloe Kardashian took the ninth position with 182 selfies on Instagram, while Kris Jenner got sixteenth with 97 and Kourtney Kardashian twentieth with 81 selfies. Cyrus did not secure a place in the top 25 list on Instagram suggesting she prefers Twitter over Instagram to please her fans.
According to the data, of all the photos posted on Instagram, 11 percent account for selfies. For Twitter, only 2 percent of all shared photos are selfies.
