Kasperi Kapanen lit the lamp and that was all she wrote. Gold at the 2016 IIHF World Juniors belonged to host Finland after a wild 4-3 overtime victory over Russia in the championship game Tuesday afternoon.
Kapanen, the Toronto Maple Leafs prospect and Toronto Marlies forward, had just one goal and an assist headed into the gold medal game. He needed only 93 seconds of overtime, after the Russians tied it up with under 10 seconds remaining in regulation, to end it for Finland.
Check out the goal for yourself.
The Finns, behind a first line of Jesse Puljujarvi, Sebastian Aho and Patrik Laine, powered their way through the Swede's, Canadian's and, on Tuesday, the Russian's, to capture gold.
The hockey-watching world was, understandably, ecstatic with the outcome...
Especially Teemu Selanne and Saku Koivu...
