Nonprofit Creates Smartphone App, World War II Memorial App, For Tourists

A nonprofit organzation created a smartphone app for tourists visiting the World War II Memorial in the nation's capital, St. Louis Today reported.

Trust for the National Mall released the app on Tuesday to teach visitors from around the world about the site, including facts about the war the millions of people the memorial honors.

"The app has straightforward navigation with easy-to-use features and breathtaking photography of the Memorial," the organization's website boasts.

Students from Alice Deal Middle School in Washington will assist veterans visiting from Missouri -- with the help of the Honor Flight Network -- to use the app as they tour the site.

It currently includes information about the memorial's architecture and construction and a virtual scavenger hunt using the building's content. Additionally, it has firsthand accounts of the war from veterans, a timeline of the war, and an entire database to look up the names of soldiers that were killed.

In addition to the National Mall organization, other companies like Altria, the Dr. Scholl Foundation, the Friends of the National WWII Memorial, and the National Park Service contributed to creating it.

The app is available on iTunes and Google Play.
