Just when the buzz is about to turn into grumbling for lack of new information, Nintendo finally broke its silence regarding the much anticipated Nintendo NX console. The device, which is still currently in development, is purportedly "hybrid" and "home console" rolled into one, Tatsumi Kimishima, Nintendo's new president, told the Japanese magazine Sankei West.
As a new console platform for Nintendo, the NX is expected to be different from the company's existing product lines, the Wii U and the 3DS ecosystem. The new concept was first announced in Nintendo's previous address to shareholders, which detailed the new strategies that the company will be adopting, International Business Times reported. Kimishima was quick to point out, however, that the NX will not be radically unique since Nintendo does not have any intention to create something that jumps on the audience. The company is, however, assuring gamers that NX will provide a new gaming experience in comparison with its current stable of consoles.
Specific details about the NX still falls within the realm of speculation. But based on Nintendo's pronouncements, some of them might just prove to be correct such as the claim that it will be a hybrid console."The rumour about the NX is that it's a hybrid console, so it would be a portable console like a 3DS, like a handheld, that interfaces with a home console," Mitchell McEwan, a video game lecturer at Queensland University of Technology, said in the Express report. "You could take games on the go, but then that processing power adds to the home console so you can play games on your TV as well."
There is still no fixed launch date for the Nintendo NX, but if some analysts are to be believed that it could only hit the market next year, Nintendo would have a hard time catching up with Xbox One and the Playstation 4. It must be noted that the NX would be directly competing with these platforms if it is indeed a home console.
