The Philadelphia Eagles aren't necessarily any closer to naming their next head coach, but they seem to be circling a few specific candidates about two weeks into their search. Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase, who interviewed with the team on Tuesday, left Philly with plans to continue his NFL head coaching interview tour. But while that seemed to indicate that Gase wasn't a fit in Philadelphia, a new report, from Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, suggests that Gase "impressed" and will be back for a second interview this weekend.
Gase's interview with the Eagles lasted eight hours, according to Jeff McLane of Philly.com. Gase, who has developed a reputation as a quarterback guru over the last few seasons thanks to his work with Peyton Manning and Jay Cutler, also has interviews set up with the Browns, Dolphins and Giants.
Speaking of the New York Football Giants, currently Big Blue offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo, the man who has turned quarterback Eli Manning from a good, if at times boneheaded signal-caller into an efficient passing machine, is set to interview with the Eagles' brass Thursday, per Rapoport.
Philly owner Jeffrey Lurie is in NYC on Wednesday, but the interview won't happen until Thursday.
In his first season under McAdoo, Manning completed 63.1 percent of his passes and tossed interceptions at just a 2.3 percent clip. He threw a career-high 35 touchdowns and managed a career-best 93.6 quarterback rating this season.
The Giants finished 2015 ranked eighth in the NFL in total offense, averaging 372.2 yards and 26.2 points per game.
While the Eagles reportedly have an interview lined up with the likes of Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, it seems Lurie and Co. are focusing their search on offensive minds that have shown the ability to win with, and alter their approach to, different types of quarterbacks.
