"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" tacked on $13 million internationally and $8 million domestically at the box office Tuesday, according to Deadline Hollywood. J.J. Abrams' newest addition to the saga has now made $758.2 million within the U.S., passing James Cameron's "Avatar" for the highest grossing domestic film of all-time. It will need to climb to $760.5 million to become the No. 1 film at the North American box office, but Disney and Lucasfilm likely aren't worried about falling short of that goal.
Internationally, "The Force Awakens" dropped just 10 percent from Monday to bring its cumulative total to $799.1 million. Worldwide, it has made a staggering $1.56 billion. After today's grosses are calculated, "The Force Awakens" will likely surpass "Skyfall," "Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" and maybe even "Iron Man 3" in the overseas grossing race. As things stand now, the film is No. 14 in overseas history and No. 4 overall.
This summer's "Jurassic World" sits at No. 3 overall with $1.669 billion worldwide. Yet, "Star Wars" is poised to knock it from its perch after it opens in China this Saturday, where it could conceivably end its run with between $250 and $300 million.
The leading markets other than North America (and before the numbers come in for China) are the U.K. ($148.7 million), Germany ($85.4 million), France ($71.5 million), Japan ($57.3 million) and Australia ($54.1 million).
We'll keep you posted as "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" continues to chase "Avatar's" No. 1 total of $2.78 billion.
