Pittsburgh Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams won't play Saturday against the Cincinnati Bengals due to a foot injury, according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport. There is reportedly a chance that Williams could be able to return for the divisional round, but Pittsburgh will first have to win a difficult matchup against an AFC North rival.
Running backs Jordan Todman and Fitzgerald Toussaint are expected to carry the load this weekend and will need to step up their play as they have both seen limited carries this season. The Steelers have been prepping all week with their backup running backs, and expect head coach Mike Tomlin to feed the hot hand on Sunday, according to ABC News.
The Steelers have dealt with their share of injuries this season, but nothing was a bigger blow then losing star running back Le'Veon Bell for the season with a torn MCL. The Steelers star running back was placed on the injured reserved list back in November, and Williams has stepped up in his absence this season, rushing for the most yards he has had since 2009.
Both Toussaint and Todman will have a big role to fill this Saturday, and they face a difficult task against the Bengals' seventh ranked run defense in terms of yards per game. Toussaint and Todman have combined for 64 rushing yards with no touchdowns this season, and expect Tomlin to prepare a strong short passing game with star wide receiver Antonio Brown, as that can open running lanes for the two young running backs.
