Vanessa Carlton was planning to embark on the rest of her tour for her new album, "Rabbits On the Run," when the singer had to undergo emergency surgery after receiving some very bad news, E! News reports.
Yesterday (Nov. 5) on her Facebook page, Carlton explained to fans that the pregnancy she had announced during the first week of her new tour turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy, which is "not considered a viable pregnancy because the fetus cannot develop and it is a high risk situation for the mother because of the potential for tubal rupture and internal bleeding."
"We caught it relatively early so I was given a shot of Methotrexate, a mild chemotherapy instead of having surgery," the 33-year-old singer wrote on Facebook. "This would hopefully shrink the pregnancy and save my tube. My doctors didn't want me leaving the city so that I was very close to hospital at all times. My mgmt moved to reschedule some shows (we hope to announce information about the makeup dates very soon)."
However, the star went on to add that "after the chemo shot [on Oct. 28] and despite our best efforts, my tube started to rupture and I was experiencing internal bleeding. My doctor performed a successful surgery and removed my entire right fallopian tube."
"On the bright side my other tube and ovaries are perfectly healthy," she wrote. "I also wanted to note that there is a theory that an appendectomy I had when i was 12 (for a ruptured appendix) had screwed up my right tube with scar tissue etc, and that's why my embryo got caught in the tube. In case you are a woman with a past appendectomy definitely take note.] "
Carlton was set to fly to Vancouver tomorrow, Nov. 7, but due to nerve pain in one of her incisions, has decided she is not ready to perform and cancelled her next four tour dates, including shows scheduled in Vancouver, Bellingham, Portland and Seattle.
"I'm so bummed about having to jank up this tour," Carlton wrote. "It started off pretty great. My favorite even. Gimme a couple more days, I'll be ready. Thank you for all your support and understanding through this."
Fans responded with their prayers, warm wishes condolences over her lost pregnancy, wishing the star a speedy and healthy recovery.
