The Phoenix Suns finally stopped their losing streak at nine games on Wednesday night when they defeated the Charlotte Hornets. Despite the win the Suns are still a mess but they have been making some roster moves recently to try and get a spark. The most recent move they will be making is signing guard Lorenzo Brown to a ten-day contract, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.
The Suns are able to make this move because they released both Cory Jefferson and Bryce Cotton on Thursday. Jefferson and Cotton both had non-guaranteed contracts that were set to become guaranteed on Jan. 10 so the Suns decided to part ways with them as neither had a role with the team anyway. Those two cuts moved the Suns roster down to 13 players. Brown's addition will make it 14 which still leaves them room for another 10-day contract or some other type of move.
Brown was the Minnesota Timberwolves second round pick (52nd overall) back in the 2013 NBA Draft but he has been all over the place since then. Brown played in 26 games with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2013-14 and 29 games with the Timberwolves last season but has spent most of his time since being drafted in the D-League.
Brown has been playing with the Grand Rapids Drive in the D-League so far this season and he has performed very well through 16 games. Brown is averaging 16.4 points and 6.1 assists per game on 48 percent shooting from the field for the Drive and although his three point shooting has been down he certainly warrants another NBA look.
Brown is expected to be the second player signed to a 10-day deal this season as the Memphis Grizzlies added Elliot Williams earlier. Brown has very good size for a point guard at 6-foot-5 and there is a possibility he might get some playing time during this deal. Eric Bledsoe is out for the season and Ronnie Price has been dealing with a foot injury so that leaves Phoenix fairly thin at the point guard spot. Brandon Knight has been starting there but if Price has to miss time due to the foot issue you might see Brown get some minutes as his backup.
