The Charlotte Hornets have seriously hit the skids recently after starting the season very well as they have lost eight of their last 10 (including five in a row) to bring their record below .500. The Hornets still see themselves as a playoff team despite their recent poor stretch so they are looking to make some moves. One of the moves that might be a possibility is trading for Brooklyn Nets shooting guard Bojan Bogdanovic as they have called the team about him, according to Mitch Lawrence of Sporting News.
Bogdanovic has reportedly been on the block for quite some time now but with the deadline getting closer the trade market for him might beef up a little. Bogdanovic has taken over the starting shooting guard role in Brooklyn since Rondae Hollis-Jefferson went down with a fractured ankle and he has played pretty well. Overall though, the Nets had very high expectations for the 26 year old and he has been a bit underwhelming.
Bogdanovic's numbers this season are pretty good as he has averaged 10 points and 3.8 rebounds per game while shooting 44 percent from the field and 34 percent from three but he doesn't bring much to the table defensively. The Hornets interest in him makes sense because they have struggled with their starting shooting guard position all season. P.J. Hairston has been the starting shooting guard but his PER of 8.2 is by far the lowest on the team and he brings very little to the table on offense.
Steve Clifford has called Hairston his best defender which is why he has kept him in the starting lineup. Jeremy Lamb and Jeremy Lin are both options at the starting spot but Clifford likes bringing them off the bench together so Bogdanovic may be an option to replace Hairston as the starting two-guard. Bogdanovic has very good size for a shooting guard at 6-foot-8 and is a threat on offense as he can shoot the long ball and drive it.
Bogdanovic's year plus in Brooklyn hasn't quite gone as planned, although he has been pretty good, but he is the type of player that can help a team like Charlotte out a lot. Bogdanovic is signed through 2017 at a very reasonable price before he will become a restricted free agent too which would likely make him more attractive to Charlotte, knowing they control him for more than just this year. It is unclear what the Nets would want in return in a trade involving Bogdanovic but the Hornets shouldn't have to give up too much in order to acquire him.
