The mantra repeated throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe is "It's All Connected." But will the Inhumans introduced in the Marvel TV series, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." appear in the "Inhumans" movie scheduled to hit theaters in 2019?
Marvel veteran and "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." star Clark Gregg sure hopes so. He does, however, realize that decision lies with the movie's as-yet-unnamed writer and director (and ultimately Marvel Studios).
"The 'Inhumans movie I suspect will be its own cinematic version," Gregg, who plays Phil Coulson, told Digital Spy. "That writer and director will have free reign to do what they want to do with the Inhumans. But hopefully there'll be some way that our Inhumans connect to that. It'd be too bad if that was wasted."
The ABC series introduced Inhumans in the second season when S.H.I.E.L.D. team member Skye (Chloe Bennett) transitioned into her new identity as Daisy a.k.a. Quake. The third season focused much of its first half plot on Coulson and his team finding more Inhumans.
"What's kind of necessary for the show to work is that it is its own thing and it's not dependent upon these crossovers," Gregg said. "They're just fun stuff that happens once in a while."
Gregg's character debuted in the first Marvel film, "Iron Man," in 2008. He then died in 2012's "The Avengers" but was resurrected to lead "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." The repercussions of "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" played out in the final episodes of season one and Coulson helped Agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) find the whereabouts of Loki's scepter for the Avengers to retrieve in "Avengers: Age of Ultron."
"They destroy the organization our show is named after and we have to deal with that! I'll be interested to see how it evolves, that crossover stuff," he said.
"Inhumans" will premiere on July 12, 2019. "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will continue its third season run on Tuesday, March 8 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
