The winning numbers for the $900 million jackpot of the Powerball lottery were drawn Saturday, with the numbers 32-16-19-57-34 and Powerball number 13, according to Fox 6 News.
The lottery ticket sales reached $277 million on Friday alone and more than $400 million on Saturday, but there was not a single ticket that had the complete set of winning numbers, CBS News reported.
The Powerball lottery jackpot has long broken records when it reached the $700 million mark and now ranks as the largest jackpot for any lottery in North American history. And since no one won Saturday's draw, the Multi-State Lottery Association expects the next jackpot prize to climb as high as $1.3 billion, with a lump sum payout of $806 million, according to St. Louis Today.
"You can throw out the logic. You can throw out the statistics," said Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery, Fox News reported. "We've never seen jackpots like this. It's a new experience for all of us."
Mechanics of the lottery are simple - to win, your ticket must have all six numbers of the draw reflected on your ticket. The first five numbers can come in any order, but the sixth one, known as the Powerball number, must be the exact number as the one drawn.
The next draw will be on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 10:59 p.m. EST.
