The iconic Playboy Mansion, which has held some of the craziest of parties, will apparently go up for sale soon.
The mansion, which is home to 89-year-old magazine publisher Hugh Hefner, will reportedly go up for sale within the next month and will have an asking price of at least $200 million, according to TMZ. Apparently, whoever buys the home will be required to give Hefner life estate, which means he has the option of living in the mansion until the day he dies. Prospective buyers can tour the entire property except for one room, and that is Hefner's bedroom.
Real estate sources who are familiar with the area say that the asking price is a little high as similar lots in that area have only sold for about $60 million. Since the Mansion does have such history and is so well-known, though, these sources do believe that it could go for anywhere between $80 and $90 million.
The Mansion was first built in 1927 and purchased by the Playboy founder in 1971 for just $1 million, according to People. Since Hefner purchased the home, the mansion and it's many lavish features, including the grotto pool, have become the main site of his famous Playboy parties and social gatherings. It has also appeared in several shows and movies like "Sex and the City," "The Apprentice" and "The House Bunny."
This news comes just months after the magazine made their decision to stop publishing nude photos of women as a part of a radical redesign, as HNGN previously reported. The January/February issue, which was the last-ever nude issue, was just released last month with legendary Playboy model Pamela Anderson on the cover.
