Russian doctor Ilya Zelendinov faces up to two years of prison time after punching a patient to death.
The patient's name was Yevgeniy Bakhtin, a 56-year-old resident of Belgorod. He was beaten by the Russian doctor on Dec. 29, 2015, at Belgorod's City Hospital in Southwestern Russia.
An autopsy of the patient's body revealed that the cause of death was a traumatic brain injury, according to CNN.
CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral, and the doctor is seen in it dragging the middle-age man by the arm after a nurse pointed the patient out. The patient allegedly kicked the nurse during a procedure, according to investigators, ABC Online reported.
The man was shoved outside a door, but a man who seemed to be in the company of the patient tried to stop the doctor, only to receive blows from the doctor, too. When the patient went back inside, he was dealt with a single punch to the head, making him fall on the floor.
The doctor continued to punch the other man, and it was not moments later when they were able to observe that the patient was no longer breathing.
Zelendinov tried to revive the patient, but to no avail.
The doctor has been fired by the hospital and will serve two years in prison for causing death through negligence or "involuntary manslaughter," according to BBC World.
