The Oakland Raiders, St. Louis Rams and San Diego Chargers have all applied for relocation this offseason, and each respective city's proposed solutions to keep their franchises was seen as "unsatisfactory and inadequate," according to a report distributed to all 32 NFL teams obtained by The Los Angeles Times.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell sent the report to all 32 teams on Saturday as a potential vote for L.A. relocation is set to happen in the NFL owners meeting in Houston this week. The Chargers and Raiders are partners in the Carson project, while Rams owner Stan Kroenke is planning to build a $1.86 billion stadium in Inglewood, according to ESPN's Eric D. Williams.
Each franchise would need 24 of the league's 32 owners to approve a move, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has submitted an alternative solution prior to the meeting in Houston on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Scott M. Reid of the Orange County Register. Jones has been a longtime ally of Kroenke and has outlined a proposal placing the Rams and Chargers both in Inglewood in a stadium backed by the Rams owners, according to Reid.
Chargers owner Dean Spanos responded to the proposal by releasing a letter of his commitment to the Raiders and their plan Carson. "I have reviewed the letter you received dated December 1, 2015 from Stan Kroenke. Nothing in Stan's letter gives me any reason to reconsider my partnership with Mark Davis and our chosen stadium site. I firmly believe that the proposal we have jointly made is in the best interest of the entire League and is in complete compliance with the League's relocation policies. I write to respectfully reaffirm our strong partnership and my abiding desire to help the National Football League return to Los Angeles in the most successful way possible," read the letter, via NFL reporter Jason Cole's Twitter account.
The Raiders and Chargers are clearly committed to the Carson Project, and it will be interesting to see what happens during the owners' meeting this upcoming week. Rams fans in Los Angeles gathered at the Coliseum this past Saturday in hopes of their former franchise's possible return back to Southern California. Owners will review all the relocation guidelines and begin to decide which team, or teams, qualify for relocation. It's a huge week for the NFL as the future of three franchises could be decided, but it's also possible that the league could decide to delay it's decision.
