Shortly after the second season of "Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal" finished airing in Japan in September 2015, the anime's official website announced that a third season had been green-lit for production. The information provided merely conveyed that the season was coming in 2016, and after several more than three months of waiting for new details, fans were delighted to learn that the new episodes will begin airing in Spring 2016, as reported by Movie Pilot.
The anime will be getting some new blood in the form of two new additions to its creative team. Chiaki Kon will be taking the reins from director Munehisa Sakai, who has directed "Crystal" since season 1, and animation director Akira Takahashi will take over character designs due to Yukie Sato departing the show. Script writer Yuji Kobayashi, art director Takashi Kurahashi and composer Yasuharu Takanashi will return to continue their work on the show, according to Den of Geek.
New director Chiaki Kon has served as director for several anime in the past 15 years. Her impressive directing resume includes titles such as "Bleach," "Golden Time," "Junjo Romantica: Pure Romance" and "Higurashi: When They Cry." A change in director might result in subtle changes in how the anime is produced, but fans seem to be welcoming the change, although fan response to Kobayashi staying with the show as script writer appears less than joyous, according to Korean Portal.
The voice actresses for Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune and Sailor Saturn will announced during a special livestream event on Niconico on Jan. 27, according to Anime News Network. This date was likely chosen for the announcement because Jan. 27 is the birthday of Haruka Tenoh, aka Sailor Uranus. They will join Ai Maeda, who was cast as Sailor Pluto in December 2014.
The new season will cover the Death Busters arc, also known as the Infinity arc.
Seasons 1 and 2 of the anime are currently streamable on Hulu and Crunchyroll.
