Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban explained his expletive-laced diatribe following his team's loss to the Penguins on Monday. The 26-year-old was the only Habs goalscorer, the team losing 3-1 at the Bell Center on Jan. 9. Subban, however, made it clear that he does not care about his personal accomplishments, even though it was only his second goal this season.
"I couldn't give a s--t about my f---king first goal in however long. It doesn't f---king matter," he stated to Sportsnet's Eric Engels in an interview after the game. "I'm not a goalscorer. It's not my job to score goals." His full uncensored comment can be viewed here.
He later cooled off, but did not retract any of his statements.
After a couple of days of silence, Subban clarified what he meant, by stating he only cared about one thing, winning, according to Engels.
Canadiens owner Geoff Molson also weighed in defending his star's statements.
Much of Subban's frustration could be attributed to the fact that the Habs are now 5-13-0 since Dec. 1, and have only scored more than three goals twice during that span. The Montreal team not only has offensive problems, but defensive as well, as its award-winning goaltender Carey Price is still out, and not expected to play until early February.
The Habs have gone a paltry 3-7-0 in their past ten games, dropping them to third in the Atlantic Division.
