Wal-Mart Stores Inc. announced that a glitch in their online store which suddenly slashed prices on a number of items Wednesday morning was fixed on Thursday, and that the company would not be honoring purchases made on the discounted items.
Spokesperson for Walmart.com Ravi Jariwala told Reuters that items such as treadmills that were priced at $33 and LCD computer monitors up for nine bucks that customers successfully bought online would not be considered a full sale. The items wouldn't be shipped, and customers would receive a refund.
"Given the wide discrepancy in pricing, we are notifying customers who ordered these items that their orders have been canceled and that they'll be refunded in full," Jariwala wrote in an email. Walmart will also give shoppers whose orders did not go through a gift card worth $10.
Walmart didn't specify the exact number of purchases that were made at the low prices. Most of the products whose prices suddenly dropped were electronic goods. While the website was being repaired on Wednesday, Jariwala told Reuters, the homepage was unavailable.
Walmart customers posted information on social media about their huge savings Wednesday, informing others of the deals. Some wondered whether or not the company would allow the purchases made at a fraction of the sticker price would go through.
